8 Morning Habits to Combat Stress

08/01/2023

Have you ever wondered if a good morning routine could save you from unnecessary stress and anxiety?

As they say, mornings truly are a blessing, but how can you get the maximum benefit from them? First, it’s important to plan and set up a good morning routine. If you are like many people, just the thought of this is stressful! How about we don't make it stressful and hard to practice? Instead, let's take a different approach to make your mornings enjoyable, memorable, and stress-free for you.

It's a sensible plan to consider several practical morning habits that are easy to follow. Don't create a morning routine that your friend or your neighbour follows but is hard for you, this would add more self-inflicted stress - especially when you fail to properly follow the routine. The best bet is to try to set a routine that motivates you.

Here are some examples of habits you could include in your morning routine to combat stress and promote wellbeing:

Drink water as the first thing after you wake up.

Unless you've been living under a rock, you know that drinking water first thing in the morning offers many benefits to your health and body. Drinking water in the morning gives you a soothing feeling that will also calm your mind and reduce stress. After a night of not drinking water, it will rehydrate your body, boosting your energy, and help you feel healthy and happy. You've done something good for your body first thing, tick!

Go out for a little morning walk.

If you have time for a longer walk, great! If not, walking for only a few minutes is good anyway. If possible, try to walk outside in nature and get some sunlight, too. There's something soothing about being around nature and fresh air that creates a good feel for the whole day.

Don’t waste your morning on your mobile phone.

The worst thing that many of us do is to waste hours on our phones once we wake up. If you had been doing this, stop this habit beginning tomorrow. To do this, try to keep your mobile phone far away from your bed so that you won’t pick up and start using it unconsciously. Instead, set the morning alarm on an alarm clock and keep it near you instead of the phone.

Meditate and exercise.

Meditation and exercise in the morning are the two proven and powerful ways to reduce or manage stress. Make these two your morning habits and manage a few minutes for them every day to reap the benefits.

Recall your blessings and be thankful.

Spend a few minutes thinking about the virtues of your life and be grateful for them. This process makes you content instead of complaining about life. When you start practicing gratitude, the stress will start to fade away from your life. The happiest people in the world are only that way because they focus on what they do have and are grateful for, rather than what they are lacking.

Read a newspaper or a good book.

Reading the newspaper or a few pages of a good book will give you the knowledge and positive vibes for the day. As a result, it will help in reducing your stress while making you feel confident and insightful.

Have a healthy breakfast.

Among all of these points, it is the most important one. If you are not eating healthy and nutritious, everything else is useless. Therefore, always try to have a healthy breakfast in the morning to boost your stamina and energy for the day. By doing so, you will notice that you are more energetic and happier day by day and effectively managing your stress.

Get dressed up for the day.

Every day, dress up beautifully in the morning to carry out your all-day responsibilities. When you dress up nicely, it gives you confidence in yourself and takes away the uninvited stress from your life.

Developing good morning habits and then sticking to them is an important step to relieve your stress.

Without having a proper morning routine, the rest of your day will be disorganized and cause greater stress on you. However, don’t give up your morning routine if you fail to follow it some days. Life gets in the way sometimes but try to get back to your routine as soon as possible. You will see a noticeable difference in your stress level as well as your overall wellbeing.
